Dad took the kids camping yesterday and today and found a great place to go fishing.  He only ended up taking 3, 4,5,6 with him but they had a great time--that is until the realities of life came crashing down on them.  Fishing is a great thing, but when you kill the fish and start cutting it apart,  it was more than #5 could handle.  He had named his fish Biff and really thought he was going to take it home to live in a tank, after all "fish are friends, not food!"

#5 has now been home an hour and we have fried and eaten Biff, and he has not stopped crying since he left the fish cleaning station.   That was at 10:00 am this morning.  I'm not sure he will ever eat meat again.

Dad is not sure camping in this area is a great thing if you want sleep.  It is dark around 10:00 and light at 4:30 am.  You guessed it the kids were up and rearing to go as soon as the light hit the sky!  And I was complaining about having to wake up at 8:00am with #7 this morning....

Imagine my surprise when my screen saver started flashing these pictures at me.  What is the world is the 3 year old thinking!!!!!  The potty mouth isn't enough, he is now mooning computers!  I'm pretty sure we're going to be too old when he hits the teen years.

#3's first boy scout camp out

#3 has looked forward to camping out with the scouts ever since his brother's first excursion.  Well it was his turn  and he was excited.   He was late getting dropped off since I had gone to get my hair done and they were late getting me started.  Imagine his surprise when  I showed up to pick him up in a cape and my hair full of foil.  It was an efficient way to process--beat sitting reading a magazine.

He came home the next day with quite the story.  He had missed the knife sharpening class because as he was walking to it, the sole of his shoe fell off.  I don't think I got the full story on that one, but I suspect it had to do with leaving them too close to the fire.  Imagine him trying to walk with the sole barely attached and him trying to stop and fix it after every step.  So he missed his class and later in the day he thought he would try what the other boys were talking about.    His scout master looked over and noticed he was rubbing his knife up against a rock.  When he asked him what he was doing, #3 told him that his knife was dull from hitting it up against the flint and he was trying to sharpen it.  His scout master told him the rock he was using wasn't going to work, to which #3 replied "but the kids said you needed a wet stone so I  found a rock spit on it" It's not a wet rock #3, it is a wet stone.  I think maybe he should have tried a little harder to get to that class.

So we were driving the other day and my 5th son was in the back seat.  "Mom", he said "We need to go to the wild west".  I tried to explain to him that we lived in the wild west but he wasn't buying that so I finally asked him where was the wild west...his reply, "where it is all brown and the sun is setting"

I think we've seen to many western at our house!

The beginning

For years people have been trying to get me to write down the funny things my kids say.  It wasn't until recently that I realized they are really growing up on me and I needed to start getting some of these things recorded.  I figured blogging was the perfect medium!  Not only can I get things down quickly, but allow our friends and family so see just what is going on in the minds of our kids...sometimes we really don't want to know!  So thus it begins and hopefully continues for many more years!

Happy reading!
